RP Mystic’s Guide to Scorpio Season

Lifestyle photo of the "Signs & Skymates" suite. All three products are laid above cards from the "Signs & Skymates Astrological Compatibility Deck"

Scorpio Season usually occurs between October 22-23 and November 21-22, and corresponds to the 8th zodiac sign of the year. Many of us modern mystics–not just Scorpios–take advantage of this time to enact deep, intense change while attempting to look within and balance peace. In her book, Signs & Skymates: The Ultimate Guide to Astrological Compatibility, author Dossé-Via Trenou writes of this zodiac sign: “For far too long, too many misconceptions have been made about Scorpio, the zodiac’s most mysterious, alluring, vigilant, and complex sign. Being ruled by the all-mighty Mars (Planet of Action) and Pluto (Planet of Transformation), Scorpios are undeniably perceptive, calculating, and full of intrigue for the transformative world in which they live. To others, this makes Scorpios come off as either wildly attractive or intensely intimidating.”

Here, we offer our most cherished correspondences, rituals, and more to tap into the intense, transformative energy of Scorpio Season.

Get to Know the Scorpion

To learn more about the Scorpio within us (after all, each one of us has a little bit of each zodiac in our charts somewhere), let’s get to know the animal symbolic of this season: the Scorpion. Mystic Mondays creator Grace Duong shares the powerful and surprising traits that make up the Scorpion in Mystic Mondays: The Cosmic Creatures Deck: A Deck and Guidebook to Connect to the Wilderness Within.

The Scorpion card from "Mystic Mondays: The Cosmic Creatures Deck"

SCORPION: Sting, Potency, Intensity

Potent and powerful, Scorpions carry their tails curved over their backs, ready to strike their prey or predator with poisonous venom. Call upon the Scorpion when you are looking for extra protection, and don’t be afraid to spout that venom when you need to guard or attack to make a point. An ancient and adaptable Cosmic Creature, the Scorpion has been crawling this Earth for over 400 million years, longer than either humans or dinosaurs. Naturally, they carry the secrets of the Earth Mother and are a living testament to the tenacity to survive, despite environmental conditions. When a Scorpion crawls along your path, you will be challenged to transform, to grow out of your exoskeleton into a shinier, stronger, and brighter version of yourself. This is a sacred dance, to mature into the rhythm of your soul’s evolution. Cut the toxicity out of your life and release. Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back.

A Love Ritual for Your Scorpio Season

This zodiac season isn’t just a time of transformation and intensity; it’s also a time of heightened passion and love. After all, Scorpios are a fixed water sign so their motivation involves going deep into emotions and sensuality. Consider this ritual to heighten your own passionate life during this season, from The Practical Witch’s Love Spell Book: For Passion, Romance, and Desire by Cerridwen Greenleaf.

Elixir of Ecstasy: DIY Crystal Magic

Elixirs are very simple potions made by placing a crystal or gemstone in a glass of water for at least 7 hours. Remove the stone and drink the “crystallized” water. The water will now carry the vibrational energy of the stone, the very essence of the crystal. This is one of the easiest ways to take in crystal healing, and it is immediate. The red stones always hold the “lust for life,” so to push the envelope, put as many red stones into your elixir as you can get your hands on. Gather the following:

  • Red stones and crystals such as carnelian, garnet, rough ruby, red coral, red jade, red jasper, red sardonyx, cuprite, aventurine, or red calcite
  • Jar or glass full of water
  • Amber incense
  • Red candle

Mix and match the red stones, and remember, if you only have access to one rough ruby and a tiny chunk of red jasper, so be it—that is still a lot of love in a jar!

Add the stones and/or crystals to the jar of water. Place the Elixir of Ecstasy in the love corner of your room or on your altar. Light the amber incense and red candle and say aloud:

This jade is my joy, this garnet my grace.

Leave the water on your altar for 7 hours or overnight, and drink it upon awakening. Your life energy will quicken, and you should feel very upbeat and “good to go.”

Explore the Tarot Card for Scorpio

All zodiac signs are ruled by a tarot card from the Major Arcana. The Death card is associated with Scorpio season. Let’s explore the meaning of this card with Queer Tarot: An Inclusive Deck and Guidebook created by Ash + Chess.

The Death card from "Queer Tarot"

Death, XIII

TRANSFORMATION, REBIRTH, CLOSURE

Death may seem like a very frightening sight at first, but when you look more closely, it is actually quite an encouraging and necessary card. It represents a part of your life that needs to come to an end, and this will likely happen suddenly or against your will. This can mean the end to a toxic relationship, identity, habit, job, or anything that may be holding you back from your fullest potential and your ultimate truth. It might feel wrong or shocking to you when this door closes, but know that it needs to happen. You don’t have to view Death as a negative thing, and in most cases, this card will refer to a “metaphorical death.” These things happen in life no matter what, so rather than deny extremely painful times, embrace them and know that they will move you forward to your next step in life. Don’t look at Death in the sense of dying, but instead try taking on the perspective that this is your rebirth after the much-needed end to this phase. It is sometimes necessary for us to lose in order to gain.

REVERSE: This card reversed can mean a more wrenching change. You might find yourself feeling resistant to this change because it wasn’t part of your plan. As you go through what may be a painful transition, it’s important to remember that endings are also new beginnings. Your resistance might be what’s holding you back. Instead of looking at unhealthy attachment patterns, you are focusing your energy on what left and on the loss. It’s time to accept this change, so that you can begin to move forward.

THINGS TO CONSIDER: What makes you sad about this particular loss? What are you most looking forward to post-rebirth? Now that this door is closed for good, think about the positive things in the future that can come out of this grim situation.

Tap Into the Transformative Energy of Crystals

The intense, passionate nature of Scorpio season can tend to leave some witches unbalanced and on shaky ground. Here, we’d like to suggest five crystals to incorporate during this time to enhance calmness and welcome more balance. These suggestions are courtesy of Crystals: A Little Introduction to Their Powers by Nikki Van De Car.

CELESTITE: Allows you to stand back and look at a problem without emotional clouding. Clears any blocks that may be preventing you from connecting with the spirit world.

OBSIDIAN: A stone of protection, particularly from spiritual forces. It will help you understand and face your deepest fears. Helps with bacterial and viral invasions.
